A Natural Selection

A Natural Selection
2002
An assemblage of fabricated objects, photographs, painted works and multiples from the past decade, mostly blue.

Several of Fereday's earlier multiples make a reappearance: saucers painted with nail polish; gold-leafed tin lids; a tissue box bearing the text promise, Last Painting; and a glass plate repeating the title of the '60s pop art exhibition: This is Tomorrow. New works include a giant globe constructed from unsuccessful grant applications and blue tin foil, displayed beneath a series of Anxious Objects bearing texts including Fabulous, Failed and Favourite. The texts suggest a number of things, not altogether reconcilable, including artworld assessment, contraception, and feminine fetish. The installation evokes the persistence of artistic endeavour amidst illusions of success and failure.
